CPS 8 x 8 Trophy Competition

Last Tuesday evening Colchester Photographic Society hosted their annual “8 x 8 Inter-Club Competition”, so called because eight clubs are invited to compete each offering up 8 prints from 8 individual club members.

As usual this event was very well attended and hugely enjoyable, helped perhaps in no small way by the excellent and varied buffet made available at the break, courtesy of the CPS membership.

Typically the standard was very high and much appreciated by Mike Fuller our judge, who as expected did a great job in his appraisal. What made the evening even more exciting was that the final scores revealed we had a tie, with Ipswich and Colchester having an equal total thereby forcing a tie-break. Each of these two clubs offered up to the judge one more image with a single decisive point being requested for what he believed to be the best image. On this occasion it went to Colchester PS, who was therefore declared this seasons winner. A separate award was also given to what was considered to be the best image of the night, which went to Colin Westgate, a Colchester member, for his beautiful picture “Mersea Island Sunrise”.
